MEGHALAYA CONNECTS TO SOUTH ASIA AND VIETNAM AT INTERNATIONAL NORTH EAST FESTIVAL

Shillong, October 29 : Meghalaya is connecting to South Asia in general and Vietnam in particular through the 3 Ts of Textiles, Trade, and Tourism, and the 3 Cs of Craft, Cuisine, and Culture, at the ongoing International North East Festival being organized by the Consul General Ho Chi Minh, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, under the Ministry of External Affairs.

The Departments of Textiles, Arts & Culture, and Tourism are representing Meghalaya in the first ever ongoing NE festival in Vietnam. The respective teams/delegations are actively participating in the various B2B meets, exhibitions, and cultural evenings through their official level delegations, textiles entrepreneurs, cultural troupes, and music bands, showcasing Meghalaya’s soft power and investment potential. Textiles is a focus area for the state.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs RK Ranjan Singh inaugurated the NE festival along with the Chairman & Head of Ho Chi Minh Province, Government of Vietnam, the Ambassador of India in Vietnam, the Consul General, and other NE state delegations.

Chairman of nearly 25 state provinces of Vietnam, leading Vietnamese entrepreneurs, and tour operators expressed keen interest in the state’s eco-friendly textiles, tourism sectors, and further cultural exchanges with Meghalaya.

Malaysian Airlines, which operates to Dhaka, is keen to further expand tourist traffic to Meghalaya through the land route. It was also announced that Vietnamese Airlines will soon commence direct flights from Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City to Guwahati.
