Shillong, June 01: A 16-member contingent of the Meghalaya State Kickboxing Association (MSKA), comprising 14 boys and two girls, left for Odisha on Saturday to participate in the Junior Boys’ and Girls’ National Kickboxing Championship 2026.
The championship will be held at Khurda, Odisha, from May 30 to June 3 under the aegis of the WAKO India Kickboxing Federation and organised by the Odisha State Kickboxing Association.
The Meghalaya team is being led by international kickboxer Daniella I.W. Mylliemngap of Lumparing Lumdorbar, who is accompanying the contingent as coach.
The athletes will compete in various categories, including K1 Rules, Low Kick, Full Contact, Kick Light and Light Contact across different weight divisions.
Among the participants are Benjamin Nongtraw, Aedriel Gordon Ranee, Aldrin Osmond Pariat, Derick Dashankur Nongrum, Arrishot Bitdor Mawlieh, Darren Ervim Blah, Saikuparlang Phanbuh, Sumarlang Kharumnuid, Enkupar Wahlang, Misariio Nongdhar, Nangsanshaphrang Kharbithai, Merapkerlang Lyngwa, Erickson Nongkynrih, Hamebuhnam Pathaw, Nathania Mylliem of Umpling and Wanlarihun Kharbuki.
The championship will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO) and the Standard Operating Procedures laid down by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
The Meghalaya State Kickboxing Association has built an impressive record since August 2017, winning a total of 312 medals at various national and international competitions, including 101 gold, 99 silver and 112 bronze medals.
The association has also secured 67 medals at international-level competitions and nine medals for North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) at the All India Inter-University Games since 2019.
Speaking during a warm send-off tea gathering organised for the contingent, well-wishers and officials expressed confidence that the team would continue its successful run and further improve Meghalaya’s medal tally at the national level.
The association hopes the young kickboxers will deliver strong performances and bring laurels to the state at the prestigious national championship.
