Meghalaya Revises Minimum Wages Across Sectors; New Rates Effective from April 1

Shillong, May 1 : The Government of Meghalaya has revised the minimum wage rates for workers across multiple sectors, with the new rates coming into effect from April 1, 2026.

The notification, issued by the Department of Labour, Employment and Skill Development, covers a wide range of employments including agriculture, construction, transport, shops and establishments, hotels and restaurants, domestic workers, and security guards, among others.

As per the revised structure, the daily minimum wages have been fixed as follows:

  • Unskilled workers: ₹555 per day
  • Semi-skilled workers: ₹598 per day
  • Skilled workers: ₹640 per day
  • Highly skilled workers: ₹682 per day

The revised wages include the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA), which has been adjusted based on the Consumer Price Index and rounded off to the next higher rupee.

Officials stated that the existing working hours—eight hours a day and 48 hours a week—will remain unchanged. Overtime wages will be paid at double the ordinary rate.

The government also informed that the revised wage rates will be updated every six months in line with CPI-linked VDA adjustments.

The new notification supersedes the earlier wage order issued in July 2025 and has been implemented with the concurrence of the Finance Department.
