MSCW probes U-23 Women Cricketers’ harassment complaint, says final action rests with MCA

Shillong, July 1: The Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) on Tuesday said it has completed its inquiry into the complaint lodged by Meghalaya’s Under-23 women cricketers alleging harassment, while maintaining that the responsibility to take final disciplinary action rests with the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA).

Speaking to reporters, MSCW Chairperson Iamonlang Syiem said the Commission initiated the inquiry after receiving a formal complaint from the women players. She clarified that although the Commission had conducted a thorough investigation and issued its recommendations, the matter ultimately falls within the jurisdiction of the MCA.

“We only conducted the inquiry after the complaint was received. The matter belongs to the MCA, and it is for the association to take the necessary action,” she said.

Syiem said the complaint was submitted to the Commission in May 2026, nearly five months after the alleged incidents. According to her, the players approached the Commission after claiming that the MCA leadership had failed to act despite receiving their complaint through email in December 2025.

Following multiple rounds of hearings involving both the complainants and those accused, the Commission recommended the suspension of the Head Coach for a specified period. It also advised the MCA to remove the Assistant Manager from his position.

The MSCW reiterated that while it has fulfilled its mandate by investigating the allegations and making recommendations, the implementation of disciplinary measures now lies with the Meghalaya Cricket Association.
