SHILLONG FACES POTENTIAL WATER SHORTAGE DUE TO DRY WEATHER CONDITIONS

The Government of Meghalaya has announced that the water level at Mawphlang Dam, the main source of drinking water for Shillong City, has decreased significantly due to ongoing dry weather conditions. However, they have assured the public that there is still enough water in the dam to last for three to four months under current circumstances.

The Chief Engineer of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, B. Lyndem, has called on the public to use water judiciously and adopt water-saving practices wherever possible. She said that conserving water is not just a necessity but a responsibility towards ensuring a sustainable water supply for the community.

The PHE Department has also issued a press release urging the public to be informed about the situation and to take steps to conserve water.

The government is likely hoping that by raising awareness of the situation, they can encourage residents of Shillong to conserve water and help to prevent a water shortage.
