Jowai, August 4 : West Jaintia Hills District Police have claimed to have solved the murder case involving the deaths of Dameh Mulieh (28), son of Durka Mulieh, and Sholey Pale, a resident of Ialong (Luti Tuber), whose bodies were recovered from Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills District on July 31, 2026.
According to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, West Jaintia Hills, Jowai, police received information on July 31 that a Maruti Alto K10, bearing registration number ML05 AG 0285, allegedly belonging to an unknown person, had been detained by Gumrah Police in Cachar district, Assam, along with two persons found in possession of the vehicle.
A police team from the Phramer Traffic Cell, West Jaintia Hills, proceeded to Gumrah, Assam, and, in coordination with local police, seized the vehicle following due legal procedure and brought the two accused persons to Meghalaya for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased informed Khliehriat Police that the vehicle belonged to the deceased. Following the information and the circumstances surrounding the case, Jowai Police registered a theft and murder case, Jowai PS Case No. 56(07)2026, under Sections 103(1) and 140(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Based on the investigation, two accused persons were arrested on July 31. They were identified as Dapjingkmen Pslein (26), son of Aitilut Paslein, of Lakasein village, East Jaintia Hills, and Samuel Iakai (25), son of Riming Iakai, of Umkyrpong village, East Jaintia Hills. Further investigation led to the arrest of a third accused, identified as Duniwankmen Sutnga (26), son of Montu Dkhar, of Khaidiong village, East Jaintia Hills, on August 4. All three accused persons have been produced before the competent court. Police said the investigation is continuing to establish the complete sequence of events and collect all relevant evidence.
West Jaintia Hills Police also appreciated the timely assistance and cooperation extended by Gumrah Police in Cachar district, Assam, stating that the prompt detention of the vehicle and suspects contributed significantly to the investigation.
