PM MODI ASSURES TO LOOK INTO MEGHALAYA’S CONCERNS ON BORDER DISPUTES WITH ASSAM

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today, along with Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Thomas Sangma and State Cabinet Ministers. The delegation submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Modi, seeking his intervention on the ongoing resolution of the remaining six out of twelve disputed areas between Assam and Meghalaya.

Prime Minister Modi assured to look into Meghalaya’s concerns and said that the Union government will provide all necessary support to resolve the border disputes. He also appreciated the efforts of the Meghalaya government in resolving the six areas that were successfully resolved in March 2022.

The three Regional Committees that have been reconstituted will assess the current status of the remaining six disputed areas. The committees will verify village claims, establish geographical locations, and prepare asset registers in collaboration with both state governments.

The resolution of the Assam-Meghalaya border disputes is a matter of great importance to the people of both states. The cooperation of the Union government is essential in resolving these disputes and ensuring peace and harmony in the region.
