Education Minister Calls for National Unity at IIM Shillong Valedictory Ceremony

Shillong, June 13: Meghalaya Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Friday attended the valedictory ceremony of a student delegation from Telangana at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong, where he underscored the importance of national integration, cultural exchange, and mutual respect among the youth of the country.

The programme was organised under a collaborative initiative between the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal and IIM Shillong. The event was attended by faculty members, officials, nodal officers from both institutions, and student delegates from Telangana who participated in the educational and cultural exchange programme.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Rymbui said India’s diversity, reflected in its many languages, traditions, cultures, and lifestyles, serves as a source of strength that reinforces national unity.

The Minister noted that the delegates had the opportunity to experience Meghalaya firsthand and gain insights into its people, culture, and traditions. He stressed that every region of the country contributes to India’s collective identity and that the spirit of unity among Indians remains stronger than any differences.

Speaking on the values of humanity and responsible citizenship, Rymbui said that beyond all distinctions, the most important identity of an individual is that of being human. He encouraged the students to carry this message wherever they go and to contribute positively to society, their communities, and the nation.

He also observed that Indians living across the world continue to maintain strong ties with their homeland and play an important role in the country’s progress. Urging the delegates to become ambassadors of Meghalaya and the North East, he encouraged them to share their experiences and help promote a better understanding of the region among their peers and communities.

Describing the exchange programme as a unique learning opportunity, the Minister said it enabled students to engage with different cultures, learn from one another, and build lasting friendships. He commended IIM Shillong, NIT Warangal, faculty members, organisers, and support staff for creating a welcoming and enriching environment for the participants.

Highlighting Meghalaya’s rich cultural heritage, scenic beauty, and traditions, Rymbui encouraged the delegates to cherish the lessons and memories gained during their stay and continue fostering bonds of friendship and understanding across regions. “Let us live as brothers and sisters. Let us learn from one another, respect one another, and carry a sense of duty towards humanity and society. Together, we can build a stronger and more united India,” the Minister said.

The programme concluded with the distribution of valedictory certificates by the Minister to the participating delegates in recognition of their successful completion of the exchange programme. The ceremony ended with a renewed commitment to strengthening national unity through education, cultural understanding, and youth engagement.
