Locals of West Khasi Hills were irked that the Medical Equipment meant for use at the Maternity and Child Health Hospital situated at Upper New Nongstoiñ, West Khasi Hills District has been diverted to Civil Hospital, Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills District.
The Maternity and Child Health Hospital at Nongstoin was constructed over a period of three years and the locals were expecting the Government to inaugurate the Hospital after the Ministry of Health sanctioned the funds for procuring the equipment for use in the Hospital in November 2022. It is however unfortunate that on the 23rd of May, 2023, two trucks arrived in the compound and removed the equipment that was there and transported it to the Civil Hospital at Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills District.
As soon as the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) West Khasi Hills District Unit, got information of the same, they rushed to the Hospital and confirmed that the equipment was indeed removed from the premises. The student body immediately demanded that the Government replaces the equipment and makes the Hospital functional at the earliest.
